JO (Junior Olympic)

The Developmental Program is designed for the athletes to build a strong foundation of skill to help them progress safely, appropriately, and at a pace best fit for the individual. That being said, strict requirements need to be met in order to advance through each level.

Pre ``Hot Shots`` and ``Hot Shots``

Generally for ages 4-5 and 5-7, these are considered the first steps of the Junior Olympic Program. Skills and routines are taught including USAG level 1-2 (rolls, handstands, cartwheels, walkovers, etc.). The emphasis during their workouts is on fun, strength, flexibility, basic positions and prep for competitive gymnastics. At the end of the year, the athletes perform in our Annual Hot Shot Showcase. (Pre “Hot Shots” – once a week, 1 hour practice. “Hot Shots” – 2 days a week, one hour each practice.)

Level 2-5 Compulsories

Everyone competes the same routines, judged against a standard. The purpose is to strengthen weaknesses. (Level 2 – 2 days a week, 3 hours each practice. Level 3 – 3 days a week, 3 hours each practice. Level 4/5 – 4 days a week, 3-4 hours each practice.)

Level 6-10 Optional

Their competitive routines have specific requirements that must be met, but allow for more self-expression. They are judged on composition and execution. The purpose is to emphasize on strengths, while working on weaknesses. (Level 6/7 4 times a week, 3-4 hours each practice. Level 8,9,10 – 4 days a week, 4 hours each practice.)


Xcel is an alternative program within USAG. Athletes still have the opportunity to compete, but the requirements allow more flexibility on age, ability, commitment level and number of competitions per season.

Pre Bronze

This is considered the first step of the Xcel program. Athletes focus on building a foundation of basic skills (handstands, cartwheels, rolls), positions, strength and flexibility. Their goal is to prepare to compete the following year at the Bronze level. (1 day a week, 1 1/2 hours each practice)

Bronze & Silver

The beginning/intermediate divisions within the Xcel program, where athletes start to compete in front of a panel of judges. In each division the athletes compete the same routines, inclusive of basic skills such as handstands, cartwheels, round offs, back handsprings. (Bronze – 2 days a week, 2 hours each practice. Silver – 2 days a week, 3 hours each practice.)

Gold, Platinum, Diamond,Sapphire

The more advanced divisions in Xcel that allow for a higher level of skill difficulty. Athletes put a larger emphasis on their strength development. These athletes compete individualized routines where they can showcase their strengths. (Gold – 3 days a week, 3 hours each practice. Plat/Diam/Sapphire – 3 days a week, 3 1/2 hours each practice.)
